Blood Glucose Levels, Hypertension, Counfounding Factor

Abstrak

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a public health problem that continues to increase throughout the world, both in developed and developing countries. Hypertension in diabetes mellitus patients is a public health problem and is also a significant risk factor that can alter mortality and other cardiovascular diseases. Several factors that can cause hypertension in DM patients are age, gender, education, occupation, obesity and high blood sugar levels. Objective: To determine the relationship between blood glucose levels and confounding factors with the incidence of hypertension in diabetes mellitus patients in Qodr Hospital inpatient rooms in 2023. Method: This type of research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was taken using a probability sampling technique, namely simple random sampling. The data in this study is secondary data taken from the Electronic Medical Record of Qadr Hospital and obtained a sample of 311. Data analysis used Chi-Square. Results: From the results of bivariate analysis, it was found that there was no relationship between blood glucose levels and the incidence of hypertension in diabetes mellitus patients in the Qadr Hospital Inpatient Room in 2023 with a p-value = 0.188, there was a relationship between age and the incidence of hypertension with a p-value = 0.050, meanwhile gender (p-value = 0.657), education (p-value = 0.890), occupation (p-value = 0.297), and obesity (p-value = 0.496) both show no relationship with incidence of hypertension. Conclusion: There is no relationship between blood glucose levels and the incidence of hypertension in DM patients, nor do confounding factors such as gender, education, occupation and obesity have a relationship with the incidence of hypertension. In this study, the age factor shows that DM patients aged ≥45 years (adults to the elderly) have a risk of hypertension of 0.485 times compared to those aged <45 years (adolescents to adults.
